1970's Yixing Clay Minatare Shui Pin Shape Neizi Waihong Chinese Teapot
The Neizi Waihong "Purple Inside, Red Outside" Shuiping teapot is one of the signature creations of Yixing Zisha Craft Factory No. 1. Produced primarily between 1978 and 1984, it reflects a unique period in Yixing teapot history.
Following the Cultural Revolution, the supply of red clay was limited due to the slow recovery of mining and clay processing, while demand for red clay teapots remained exceptionally high. To meet this demand, Factory No. 1 used purple zisha clay as the body of the teapot and applied a layer of red clay slip to the exterior (and, on some examples, both the interior and exterior), creating the appearance of a red clay teapot.
This innovative technique was developed in response to the circumstances of the time and has since become a distinctive hallmark of that era.
